Istanbul Café: Modern Cafe with a Turkish Twist

by Lisa Sit

If you frequent the Yonge/Eglinton area, you know that it’s full of coffee shops. However, it’s hard to find a good spot to study and work with the hustle and bustle of the nine-to-fivers, shoppers and midtowners.

Although Istanbul Cafe has only been open for just over a year, it’s already earned its fame as a place to work and study while having a wide selection of coffee blends, snacks and food. There is also plenty of seating, promoting and atmosphere for their customers to get comfy and stay a while.

As tempting as it was to order my typical Americano, knowing that Istanbul Cafe was a Turkish cafe, my first order had to be their Turkish coffee! It was pleasant to see that Istanbul cafe keeps to traditional values of serving their Turkish coffee in traditional silverware with Turkish delights on the side to cleanse your palette.

The coffee was very strong (not something I would typically drink), but it had a wonderful deep flavour nonetheless. The delights were chewier than usual and lacking the burst of flavour, higher quality delights would offer. Although weak in flavour, it was still a pleasant pairing to my coffee.

Neighbourhood: Yonge / Eglinton

I must try this resto in Toronto. I don’t think I’ve tried a Turkish Cafe before. Wait – have I?

It was interesting! And it’s right by the gym so you could get a preworkout in to get your pump on – living the goodlife.
